Technical Writer (Permanent, Full Time)

Position: Technical Writer, Corporate Services Division

Salary: $59,521 (starting) to $81,804 (at 30 months)            

Hybrid Remote Options:

The LPS is currently operating under a Pilot Remote Work Procedure. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement following successful completion of training. 

Position Summary:

The Technical Writer drafts, creates, and maintains LPS documentation to ensure it is clear, accurate, and user friendly. The role bridges technical complexity and user needs to allow end users and clients to follow processes with confidence. Working closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders, the position gathers information and keeps documentation current with a substantial focus on the grant proposal process. 

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the drafting and submission of grant applications and other necessary documents. 
• Identify potential grant opportunities from government and private sources. 
• Monitor active grants and assist with required updates.
• Coordinate submissions, track deadlines, and respond to grant-related inquiries. 
• Write clear, persuasive narratives tailored to each grantor's requirements.
• Collaborate with other LPS members to record performance measurements throughout the lifecycle of the grant, including correspondence with various government agencies. 
• Assist in creating and updating procedures, manuals, and operational documents that support the effective functioning of the police service. 
• Draft standard operating procedures (SOPs) reflecting current best practices. 
• Organize and format content for ease of use and accessibility. 
• Translate technical and legal information into user-friendly language. 
• Coordinate with other LPS members for document approval and dissemination. 
• When needed and in accordance with LPS procedure, assist with drafting and reviewing privacy impact assessments to support the protection of sensitive information and adherence to applicable privacy laws and standards. 
• Consult with Legal Services, IT, and operational personnel to ensure assessments are accurate and complete. 
• Assist other members in drafting complex documents such as business cases by breaking down requirements, clarifying objectives, and structuring content for clarity, conciseness and logical flow. 
• Replace jargon with strategic, accessible wording suited for senior decision makers. 
• Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs and objectives. 
• Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.

Requirements:

• 3-year Diploma in Public Administration, Business or a related field, or equivalent.
• 2-3 years’ related experience (i.e. technical writing, public administration). 
• Strong problem-solving skills and judgement required for problems or situations that deviate from straight-forward procedures on a regular basis. 
• Strong problem-solving skills and judgement for decisions that usually involve selecting from one of several optimal or existing set of solutions or protocols. 
• Strong ability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured written materials, which convey complex information clearly.
• Excellent communication skills for regular contact with LPS members, contractors, and vendors to give, obtain, and/or exchange, and/or discuss technical information or decisions requiring discussion or explanation to ensure full understanding, with tact, self-control, and persuasiveness.
