FLEEING SUSPECTS LEAD OFFICERS TO STOLEN VEHICLE
One in custody, one suspect outstanding

LONDON, ON (September 16, 2026) - A suspect is in custody, and another is wanted after officers recovered a stolen vehicle in the north end of the city last week.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, at approximately 10:40 p.m., members of the London Police Service (LPS) were at an address near Wharncliffe Road North and Oxford Street West on an unrelated matter when they observed three people running from them.

As a result, the LPS officers located the individuals inside a vehicle that had been reported stolen to another police service on September 6, 2026.

All three occupants fled on foot from the vehicle. One suspect was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. A second suspect male and an unidentified woman were not located.

The stolen vehicle was recovered.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle Patrick Akiens, 38, and Carter Girling, 24, both of London, have been charged jointly with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Kyle Patrick Akiens has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in London court on December 7, 2026.

Carter Girling’s whereabouts are unknown, and as a result, he is being charged by way of warrant of arrest.  A photograph of Girling is being released in the hopes that members of the public can assist police in locating him.

The third suspect has not yet been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
