Autism Spectrum Disorder Registry

The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Registry provides us with information about people in our community living with ASD.

Our officers use the registry to know what triggers might upset or calm the person with ASD. The registry also shares information about what the person looks like, where they live, and who can be called in an emergency. We also use it to help find a person with ASD if they are lost or missing.

The person with ASD or their parent or guardian can complete the online registration form.

The ASD Registry is a partnership between our organization and the London Region Chapter of Autism Ontario

  • You may include a picture of the person's face. A school or passport photo is best
  • Once submitted an e-mail will be sent out to confirm the form was received
  • The registration form will be processed and you will receive a PIN number. This number can be used to make any updates or changes to the registry information
  • Once registered, the person will remain on the registry until the London Police Service is asked to remove it
  • The process will be completed as soon as possible but usually takes about 2 weeks
  • If the person with ASD is over the age of 16 consent, if possible, must be obtained before joining or remaining on the registry

  • Any changes to the registry can be made in one of two ways:
    • Access the registration form at anytime and select the update feature. You must enter your report number; or
    • Contact us directly by phone or in person
  •  Remember we cannot keep the information current if you don't tell us what to change
  • A person can be removed from the Registry at any time by contacting us directly
  • We suggest you update information on a yearly basis or earlier if information changes

I want to know about...

The Registry will provide us with information about a person with ASD. This information can be used by our officers to:

  • Interact with the person who has ASD
  • Locate a person with ASD who has gone missing
  • Identify a person we have found wandering who might have ASD

It is part of our database. Information is stored in a way that is easily accessed by our officers.

The registry captures important information that we need to know when they meet someone with ASD. You will be asked for the following:

  • Name of the person with ASD
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Physical description including scars or tattoos
  • Identification worn
  • Email address for future contact
  • Best ways to communicate with them
  • Hazards they might be attracted to
  • Life threatening medical conditions
  • Information about what not to do when we met them
  • Likes and dislikes of the person
  • Best ways to approach them
  • Anything else that may be important

Our personnel who require the information have access to it. There are strict rules about the sharing of this information that are in place to protect your privacy. For example: Registry information will not be included in a police record check or vulnerable sector check. The information will not be shared with an outside agency unless there is a life-and-death need to do so. We will not add this information onto the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system.

While the registry is intended to assist a person with ASD in crisis, our officers may access this information for any reason related to their duties.

The ASD Registry is run by the London Police Crisis Intervention/Victim Support Unit. Refer to the contact box on the top right of this page.
