WOMAN STABBED DURING EARLY MORNING BREAK AND ENTER
Suspect arrested, remains in custody

 

LONDON, Ont. (Aug. 24, 2026) – A London man is facing multiple charges after police were called to a break and enter at a residence in the south end of the city over the weekend.

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, at about 6:10 a.m., an elderly woman was woken by a loud noise and found a man entering the residence in the area of Wellington Road and Base Line Road East. The victim was assaulted and stabbed before she was able to call 911. 

Multiple officers responded. As officers attended the residence the accused began throwing broken glass at police. One officer sustained minor injuries. Officers entered the residence, and arrested the suspect.

The victim was transported to hospital by paramedic services with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was transported to hospital by paramedic services with minor injuries.

The suspect and victim were not known to each other.

As a result of the investigation, Nelson Enrique Cornejo, 40, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated assault;
  • Break and enter with intent;
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon; and
  • Obstruct peace officer.

The accused remains in custody and is expected to re-appear in London court August 27, 2026, in relation to the charges.
