UPDATE FROM THE UNSANCTIONED STREET PARTY TASK FORCE
LONDON, ON (October 8, 2026) – The London Police Service worked alongside the City of London Emergency Management and community partners throughout the last weekend of September to respond to unsanctioned gatherings in several areas, including Broughdale Avenue, Huron Street, Richmond Street and Mill Street.
An estimated 15,000 people attended the gatherings on Saturday, with approximately 5,000 remaining into the evening. The attendance prompted several traffic measures to support public safety, including the closure of Broughdale Avenue and Huron Street, as well as lane reductions on Richmond Street.
“Most young adults we encountered cooperated with emergency services and partner agencies. Downtown bars reached capacity, and sidewalks remained busy as people enjoyed the warm weather into the evening. At times, people moved from the sidewalks onto roadways, disrupting traffic. Officers responded to maintain public safety,” said Superintendent Bill Berg of the London Police Service.
Enforcement teams from the London Police Service, City of London Municipal Compliance and London Fire Inspectors were deployed before and throughout the weekend. They issued 248 Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) and Provincial Offence Notices (PON) for public nuisance parties, liquor-related offenses, excessive noise and parking violations. Police also made three arrests for public intoxication.
Officers issued multiple verbal warnings while managing the crowds and helping to maintain public safety for attendees, community members, and emergency personnel.
Middlesex-London Paramedic Service reported that their members recorded 23 calls for service and 14 transports related to Saturday’s unsanctioned gatherings.
The London Police Service would like to thank its members and all the task force partners for their assistance throughout the weekend, including City of London staff, City of London Emergency Management, Municipal Compliance and By-law Enforcement officers, City of London Roads, Western University, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, London Fire Department, London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, and officers from the Windsor Police Service, Hamilton Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police for their assistance in keeping London Safe.
