TWO STOLEN VEHICLES RECOVERED
London man facing charges 

LONDON, ON (August 14, 2026) – Members of the London Police Service Patrol Operations Investigative Section have arrested a London man after recovering two stolen vehicles and determining he was operating both while prohibited from driving.

On August 2, 2026, an off-duty London police officer observed a man known to police driving a white Dodge Ram displaying an Ontario licence plate at a gas station on Hamilton Road. Investigators confirmed the suspect was a prohibited driver, that the licence plate was not registered to the vehicle and believed cloned plates were being used.

Police attended the suspect male’s place of work in the south end of the city on August 13, 2026, where they located the Dodge Ram and confirmed it had been previously reported stolen. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Investigators determined the suspect had arrived at work operating a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that had also been reported stolen two days earlier.

As a result of the investigation, Richard Kyle Newstead, 45, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

•    Two counts of operation of a conveyance while prohibited;
•    Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and
•    Two counts of breach of probation.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in London court on September 9, 2026, in relation to the charges.

Investigators believe the accused may have been operating the stolen truck and motorcycle throughout London and area for a significant period of time and are seeking additional information from the public.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen the accused operating either of these vehicles, or who has information about the accused’s activities to contact police,” said Detective Inspector Sean Travis, of the Investigative Services Branch of the London Police Service. “Even seemingly minor information could help investigators establish timelines and identify additional locations connected to this investigation.”
