TOW TRUCK ENFORCEMENT INITIATIVE

 LONDON, ON (April 14, 2026) – Members of the London Police Service (LPS) Road Safety Section (RSS), in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), conducted a two-day “Tow Blitz” resulting in multiple charges.

On Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, 2026, members from the LPS RSS and the MTO attended local towing businesses in London to conduct safety inspections and review towing documentation to ensure compliance with the Highway Traffic Act and the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act.

As a result of the initiative, officers attended several towing businesses over the two days, which resulted in:

After inspections by a trained Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector from the LPS RSS, 11 trucks were removed from service.

Some of the charges laid under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act included:

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers involved in collisions to request towing services directly and be cautious of unsolicited offers at or near the scene of a collision”, said Staff Sergeant Michael Anderson of the London Police Service Road Safety Section. “Tow operators are not permitted to attend collision scenes uninvited to solicit business, and proper documentation must be provided for vehicles that are towed and stored.”  

The London Police Service will continue to collaborate with partner agencies to address concerns from the public, through enforcement and education to ensure safe and professional tow practices across the city.
