STOLEN VEHICLE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO FIREARM AND DRUG CHARGES

Two arrested 

LONDON, ON (August 5, 2026) – Two people are facing a number of charges after members of the London Police Service located a stolen vehicle in the downtown core over the weekend.

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, police were notified that an SUV reported stolen from outside the city of London the day before had been involved in several incidents.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., London Police Service received a call to the 300-block of Dundas Street.

Officers attended the area and located the vehicle occupied by two people. While police attempted to safely stop the vehicle, the driver reversed into an unmarked police vehicle and then struck a marked police cruiser in an attempt to flee.

The driver continued to make efforts to flee, and officers used their vehicles to contain the stolen vehicle and prevent it from leaving a parking lot. The driver and passenger were arrested without further incident.

No injuries were reported.

A search of the stolen vehicle yielded three sawed-off shotguns, multiple rounds of ammunition and a quantity of illegal drugs.

As a result of the investigation, Kayla Sutherland and Jesse James Sturgeon have been jointly charged with the following offences:

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
• Three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• Three counts of occupy motor vehicle with firearm;
• Three counts of possess loaded/unloaded regulated firearm;
• Three counts of careless storage of a firearm;
• Three counts of careless storage of ammunition; and,
• Three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance.

Kayla Sutherland has additionally been charged with three (3) counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

Jesse Sturgeon has additionally been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police/pursuit and four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear today in London court in relation to the charges.

The investigation has been reassigned to members of the London Police Service Patrol Operations Investigative Section.
