STANDING IN SOLIDARITY - LONDON POLICE CHIEF SUPPORTS PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION
STANDING IN SOLIDARITY
London Police Chief supports peaceful demonstration
LONDON, ON (JUNE 5, 2020) – Ahead of the planned rally at Victoria Park this Saturday, the London Police Service wants to let the public know that we support efforts to peacefully demonstrate in response to recent events in the U.S. We are hoping for an event where voices are heard and respected.
“I want to reassure the community, in the strongest possible terms, that I do not condone the behaviour we saw in the U.S. That is not reflective of our values. The women and men of the London Police Service, along with members of the London Police Association and the Police Services Board are committed to bias-free policing and treating every person with respect and dignity without exception. We stand in solidarity with others in support of those principles”, says Chief Steve Williams.
As always, our priority is public safety. We support the right for people to peacefully demonstrate because through demonstration can come meaningful change. We will continue to work with community members and stakeholders to ensure a safe event where voices can be heard. As a reminder, we urge everyone attending to be vigilant about physical distancing, wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times and self-monitor for COVID symptoms for the next 14 days.
