CHARGES LAID IN RELATION TO STREET-LEVEL ROBBERY
22-year-old male arrested
LONDON, ON (December 22, 2021) – On Friday December 17, 2021, at approximately 1:45 a.m, a 56-year-old woman was walking in the area of Wellington Street and Queens Avenue when a man, who was unknown to her, yelled at and followed her before eventually grabbing her from behind, stealing her purse and fleeing into Victoria Park. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from this confrontation.
Video of the robbery was obtained from nearby businesses, and on Tuesday December 21, 2021, officers identified and arrested the suspect.
As a result of this investigation, Shane Gordon, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of fraud.
The accused is scheduled to appear in London court later today in relation to the charges.
Although these types of events are uncommon in our City, we would like to take this opportunity to provide a few safety tips:
- Always be aware of your surroundings;
- When possible, walk in well-lit areas;
- Keep valuables out of sight when it’s possible to do so;
- Ensure a friend or relative knows the route you walk and when you are expected to arrive at your destination; and,
- If confronted, remember property can be replaced, and while it is a tremendous inconvenience and violation, your safety is paramount.
