SUSPENDED DRIVER ARRESTED
Woman facing multiple charges including resist arrest and assault police

LONDON, ON (July 6, 2026) – A London woman is facing multiple charges after an investigation over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, members of the London Police Service were in the area of Classic Drive in relation to an ongoing investigation when they observed a woman leave a residence in a Jeep Cherokee.

A short time later, an officer located the vehicle in the area of Classic Drive and Firestone Boulevard.

Knowing that the female driver was subject to a driver's licence suspension and court-ordered release conditions prohibiting her from attending the Classic Drive address and from operating or having care and control of a motor vehicle, the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and drove into oncoming traffic, narrowly missing the police vehicle before fleeing the area.

A second officer observed and positively identified the suspect, and a warrant application was submitted for her arrest.

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 5:40 p.m., police located the suspect vehicle parked at a residence on Oak Street. Officers positioned their cruiser to prevent the vehicle from leaving and approached the Jeep.

When officers attempted to arrest the wanted woman, she actively resisted, moved into the driver's seat of the vehicle, and attempted to put the vehicle in motion. Police deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW) to prevent her from leaving in the vehicle. The woman continued to resist arrest and assaulted one of the officers before being taken into custody.

The officer did not sustain any physical injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Sydney Colby, 25, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

·         Two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance;

·         Two counts of fail to comply with release order;

·         Fail to stop for police/pursuit;

·         Assault a peace officer;

·         Resist arrest; and

·         Driving while under suspension.

The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charges.
