IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER STRIKING AMBULANCE
London man facing multiple charges

LONDON, ON (October 5, 2026) – A London man is facing multiple criminal charges after an impaired driving incident that began with a collision involving an ambulance and ended with his arrest at a local hospital following reports of dangerous driving across the city.

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the London Police Service responded to a report of an ambulance being struck by a vehicle by a residence on Duchess Avenue near Dane Street. Paramedics at the scene contacted police.

Investigators learned that the driver struck a parked ambulance before colliding with a second parked vehicle in a driveway and fleeing the area.

Shortly after the initial call, police received multiple reports of a silver sedan being driven dangerously in the area of Western Road and Sarnia Road. The vehicle was reported to be driving on sidewalks, down a flight of stairs, through red lights, and nearly striking pedestrians while operating with significant damage to one of its tires.

Officers searched for the suspect vehicle and located it as it entered the Base Line Road East entrance of a local hospital on Commissioners Road East. Police utilized their police cruisers to prevent the vehicle from continuing to move and attempted to arrest the driver.

During the arrest, a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed but was ineffective. The suspect male resisted officers and assaulted two members of the London Police Service before being taken into custody at approximately 9:50 p.m.

There were no reported injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Neil Anthony Salters, 46, of London, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of assault peace officer;
  • Resist arrest;
  • Operation while impaired;
  • Flight from peace officer;
  • Dangerous operation; and
  • Fail to stop after accident.

The accused remains in custody and appeared in London court today in relation to the charges.
