Preparing for Emergencies

emergency checklist and items to be used in emergency situation, batteries, flashlight etc.

Sometimes things happen that are out of your control. London can face severe weather (tornadoes, snowstorms, thunderstorms or flooding) and other emergencies (a power outage, water main break or an ice storm). It is important to be prepared for these types of incidents. With a plan in place, you and your family will be better able to cope when an emergency occurs. Get information on what you should know in case of an emergency.

Making an Emergency Kit

The City of London website has steps to help you make an emergency kit and create a plan to save your pets.

Below are some examples of emergencies that you and your family should be aware of and have a plan in place:

Power outages

This is the most common emergency in our city. If your power goes out, call your hydro provider before calling the police. Visit London Hydro's website to learn what to do during a power outage.

Natural disasters

Be it a storm, tornado or lightning strike, natural disasters can escalate in a matter of minutes. Know what to do in case one of them happens to you by reviewing the emergency guidelines in The City of London Emergency Management Program.
