Salary: $94,591 (Starting) to $114,423 (at 30 months)

Uniformed Division Special Constables are tied to the Patrol Sections within Patrol Operations of the London Police Service (LPS). These Special Constables work as part of a team supporting Constables within Patrol, Headquarters Detention Unit, and the Headquarters Reception Unit.
Responsibilities
· High visibility crime prevention patrol duties, including community engagement
· Assisting with calls for service as dispatched or directed
· Scene Management including crime scene and traffic collision scene
· Report writing, recording and submission of witness statements, canvassing
· Assist in searches for property, evidence, and people
· Assist in the collection, seizure, and logging of evidence and property as directed
· Assist with road closures
· Prisoner transportation
· Search of prisoners upon entry into the cellblock and when sentenced or arrested on a warrant
· Guarding and maintaining custody of prisoners and persons in police custody
· Record the intake and transfer of all prisoner property and prescription medication
· Administer prescription medication when required and document administration.
· Assess all prisoners’ health and safety upon arrival and throughout the shift
· Carrying LPS approved naloxone nasal spray and complete associated training in its use
· Maintain constant vigilance of surroundings and actions of persons in custody
· Monitor video equipment in holding cells and transportation vehicles
· Assist members of the public within Headquarters Reception Unit
· Maintain a clear, chronological list of daily activities in duty book
· Utilize de-escalation strategies when attempting to diffuse a problematic situation
· Employ use-of-force when circumstances warrant and according to applicable legislation and LPS Procedure
· Execute warrants, summons, and DNA orders and complete all pertinent paperwork
· Liaise with correctional institutions and relay pertinent information to other officers and supervisors
· Carry out duties in compliance with applicable legislation and procedures
· Other duties as assigned within the core competencies
Requirements
· Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
· OACP Certificate issued within the past three years.
· Valid Class G Driver’s License with a good driving record that has no more than six demerit points
· Successful completion of LPS Fitness Test.
· Valid Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR (Level C).
· Yearly requalification on use of force.
· 6-12 months’ related experience.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and judgement required to make decisions from numerous/ broader range of alternatives covered by standards and precedents
· Excellent communication skills for regular contact with other LPS members, external agencies, and arrested persons using tact, discretion, and persuasion to obtain willing action or consent in emotionally charged/potentially volatile situations on a regular basis.
