London man in custody

LONDON, ON (August 29, 2025) – A London man has been arrested and charged after members of the London Police Service responded to reports of a gunshot earlier this week west of the downtown core.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the area of Wharncliffe Road South and Bruce Street after receiving calls in relation to a loud noise believed to be a gunshot.

Police arrived and located evidence of a firearm being discharged.

With the assistance of the LPS Emergency Response Unit, Canine Unit, Uniformed Division and Patrol Operations Investigation Section the male suspect was identified, located and arrested a short time later.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation was reassigned to the Patrol Operations Investigation Section who obtained a search warrant to search the residence in the area of Wharncliffe Road South and Bruce Street on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The following items were seized as the result of the search warrant:

  • One (1) open black trigger lock;
  • Two (2) spent 9mm casings;
  • Eight (8) 9mm rounds of ammunition; and,
  • One (1) 9mm hollow-point round

No firearm was located.

As a result of the investigation, Dakotah Thomas Lewis, 27, of London has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possess restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a license and registration certificate;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Discharge a firearm in a reckless manner;
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition;
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition;
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order;
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon; and,
  • Possession of a prohibited ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in London court on September 2, 2025, in relation to the charges.

The London Police Service acknowledges any incident involving a firearm can create understandable community concern. The LPS remains fully committed to maintaining public safety and investigating all calls for service as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

Community safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage residents to remain vigilant, and report suspect activity promptly.

The investigation remains ongoing, and investigators are asking anyone who may have information in relation to contact the London Police Service.
