STOLEN MOISTURE DENSITY GAUGE
Public Safety Warning
LONDON, ON (October 27, 2021) – Police are investigating a theft from a motor vehicle that was reported on October 19, 2021 in the 600-block of Dundas Street.
A citizen contacted police to report items stolen from his vehicle overnight, including a “Troxler 3430” moisture density gauge.
On October 26, 2021, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission contacted the London Police Service to advise that the device contains a radioactive material that is considered to be low-risk and unlikely to be dangerous.
The CNSC further advised that, although it is very unlikely that anyone would be permanently injured by the amount of radioactive material contained in the stolen property, unshielded radioactive material could temporarily injure someone who handles or who is in contact with it, or who is close to it for several weeks.
Photographs of the portable gauge and container are attached to the website.
Anyone with information in relation to this incident or who locates the device is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
