Murder victim’s son pleads for tips in decade-old murder
Lisa Leckie’s homicide investigation continues
LONDON, ON (March 22, 2019) – The now 18-year-old son of murder victim Lisa Leckie, and police investigators pleaded today for someone to finally bring closure to the 10-year search for her killer.
Sean Leckie, who was eight at the time of his mother’s murder, is calling for anyone with any information, even something that may seem insignificant, to come forward.
“It's unbelievable that 10 years ago, she was taken from us,” he said in a video statement released by London Police today. “For myself, my brother, her fiancé, her family, my father's family – it affected everyone who had come in contact with her, to know that someone so special to us could be gone in an instant.
“It feels like forever ago and yesterday all at once, and though that makes no sense, anyone who has experienced loss can understand it.”
Lisa, then 25, was found in her third-floor apartment at 390 Southdale Road East on March 24, 2009 shortly before 7 a.m. by her common-law husband when he returned home from work. Her eight-month-old son was unharmed and found in his crib.
Investigators believe she was killed on the evening of March 23, 2009, or in the early morning hours of March 24, 2009. The autopsy revealed that she died as a result of asphyxiation.
A note written on a typewriter was left behind by her killer, police revealed today. Due to investigative reasons, the content of the note will not be released; however, investigators hope that releasing the fact that it was produced on a typewriter will resonate with someone, said Det. Sgt. Alex Krygsman, head of the London Police Service’s Major Crime Section.
“Even in 2009, it was unusual to find something written on a typewriter instead of produced by a computer printer,” said Det. Sgt. Krygsman, who noted that more than 300 interviews have been conducted and more than 80 different officers have worked on this investigation at one point.
The note and other evidence strongly indicate this was not a random act and that Lisa was targeted by someone she knew. “We firmly believe that someone knows who killed this kind and loving mother, and we are appealing to that person’s conscience,” Det. Sgt. Krygsman said.
Sean Leckie just wants to know what happened and why. “I want to know why someone would want to hurt my mother and everyone around her so badly,” he said.
“It is time to do the right thing and let Lisa’s family finally find some peace that the person or people who killed her are being held responsible,” Det. Sgt. Krygsman said.
