LABOUR AGREEMENT RATIFICATION
Labour Agreement Ratification
LONDON, ON (November 28, 2023) – Chair Ali A. Chahbar, London Police Services Board (LPSB) and Paulo Domingues, President of the London Police Association (LPA) are pleased to advise that the parties reached an agreement last evening on new four-year Working Agreements that extend to the end of 2026, for both Sworn and Civilian Members.
The current Working Agreements expired December 31, 2022.
Highlights of the Agreements include:
- 4-year contract (2023 – 2026);
- Wage increases at: 5% (2023), 3.5% (2024), 2.5% (2025), 2% (2026);
- The introduction of Front-line Officer and Specialty Unit incentives to promote front line and investigative supports;
- Improved benefits that support member wellness and mental health; and
- Greater objectivity and accountability in the performance of duties.
London must maintain a competitive compensation program that reflects and respects current market conditions if it hopes to improve service levels. The provisions contained in these agreements will significantly enhance member retention and recruitment.
The London Police Service Board made clear through the approval of these Agreements that it (i) values its members and the work they do protecting our community, and (ii) is committed to making the London Police Service an attractive option to potential recruits throughout the province, and in doing so, serving our community’s needs.
Chair Ali Chahbar says, “On behalf of the London Police Services Board, we are pleased to support this important agreement at this consequential time for law enforcement and our city. This is the agreement needed today, for both our police service and our community. Our city, like countless other municipalities across the province, continues to observe and experience the challenges and real struggles associated with keeping police services properly staffed and resourced. While we appreciate and respect the difficult and dangerous work members of the London Police Service experience every single day, words of support alone will not suffice. This agreement reflects a recognition of the current realities and climate facing our service today and achieves an outcome that will deliver both a substantive and symbolic message that this Board will take the requisite steps necessary to ensure the safety, security and well-being of both our city and service.”
Paulo Domingues, LPA says, “We appreciate the professionalism and recognition the LPSB brought to this round of bargaining. Our messages related to Sworn and Civilian Member wellness and burnout was heard. We had fulsome conversations about how we can best serve the needs of our current Members, bringing them in line with the rest of the province, and future potential Members by offering reasonable and fair compensation for the hard work done in often very trying circumstances.”
