ONGOING HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
Additional charge laid, investigation ongoing 

UPDATE # 8 - LONDON, ON (May 12, 2022) – Members of the LPS Major Crime Section continue to investigate the murder of Lynda Marques, and have charged an additional man in relation to the homicide. 

Through further investigation, including the examination of significant volumes of surveillance video footage, officers have identified a grey Ford Fusion believed to be connected to the homicide. The Fusion was observed travelling with the recovered black Volkswagen Jetta on the day of the murder. Investigators believe that the involved suspects departed the city in the Ford Fusion.

As a result of the investigation, Osman Ali Afandy, 23, of the Greater Toronto Area, was arrested in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 11, 2022, and London police have charged him with the following Criminal Code offence:

  • First degree murder 

Investigators believe that the accused, Osman Afandy, is the person in the image of the lone male released to the media on April 21, 2022, and that he was the driver of that vehicle. This is an image of the two vehicles

The accused is expected to appear in London court on May 13, 2022, in relation to the charge. 

The investigation of Lynda’s murder is continuing, including further investigation of the two males seen in the photo released to the media on March 29, 2022, which also features the Volkswagen Jetta. Investigators continue to appeal to the public for information in relation to the involved vehicles and persons involved.

UPDATE # 7 – LONDON, ON (May 4, 2022) – Members of the LPS Major Crime Section have laid a charge in relation to a homicide investigation dating back to September 10, 2021.

As a result of the investigation, Ammar Patel, 18, of the Greater Toronto Area, has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

  • First Degree Murder

The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charge. 

While one individual has been charged, the investigation is ongoing and we continue to appeal to the public for additional information.

UPDATE # 6 - LONDON, ON (April 21, 2022) – The London Police Service continues to investigate the murder of Lynda Marques and is again seeking the public’s assistance. Ms. Marques was fatally shot on September 10, 2021, at approximately 7:50 p.m., as she returned to her residence in North London. The suspects fled in a black Volkswagen Jetta which was recovered on Meadowlily Road South on September 15, 2021.

As previously released, the London Police Service has reason to believe the persons involved in the murder of Ms. Marques travelled to London from the Greater Toronto Area on September 9 and left London immediately after her murder on September 10. 

Attached is a photo of a male investigators believe has information about Ms. Marques’ murder, and they would like to speak with him.  Investigators are requesting that citizens contact police if they have any information about the identity of the pictured male and/or his movements and activities on September 9, 2021, and September 10, 2021.

UPDATE # 5 – LONDON, ON (March 29, 2022) – The London Police Service continues to investigate the murder of Lynda Marques. Ms. Marques was fatally shot on September 10, 2021 at approximately 7:50 p.m. as she arrived at her residence on Wateroak Drive, in north London. The suspects fled in a black Volkswagen Jetta.

On September 15, 2021, the black Jetta believed to be involved, was found abandoned on Meadowlily Road South, near Commissioners Road East.  Investigators determined it had been stolen from Bluffers Park and Beach in Scarborough, Ontario, on September 5, 2021. The Jetta has undergone extensive forensic examination, and analysis of evidence gathered is ongoing. 

Investigators have reason to believe the persons involved in the murder of Ms. Marques are from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and that they travelled to London from the GTA on September 9, and left London immediately after her murder. This is an image of the two suspects and involved vehicle

Attached are photos of two of the involved persons, as well as the black Volkswagen Jetta. 

Investigators are requesting that citizens contact the police if they have any information about the following:

  • the identities of the two persons seen in the attached photo;
  • the activities of the two persons in the attached photo between September 9 – 10, 2021
  • the movements of the Volkswagen Jetta on September 9, 2021 while travelling from the GTA to London and after arriving in London
  • the movements of the Volkswagen Jetta throughout the day on September 10, 2021, while it was in London prior to and immediately after Ms. Marques’ murder.This is an image of the involved vehicle

UPDATE #4 – LONDON, ON (September 17, 2021) – The London Police Service continues to investigate the murder of Lynda  Marques outside 2229 Wateroak Drive on September 10, 2021.

At approximately 7:52 pm, three suspects attended the address in a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta. Two of the suspects exited the vehicle and each fired shots into a car parked in the driveway that was occupied by the victim.  Ms. Marques suffered multiple gunshot wounds which resulted in her death. Both suspects returned to the car, and fled the area.

On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta was located near the end of Meadowlily Road South, in the City of London.

“We believe that the car located on Wednesday is the same one used during the commission of this murder” says Detective Sergeant Sean Travis, of the Major Crime Section. “Its discovery provides an opportunity to advance the investigation into this horrific incident and we are appealing for anyone with information to contact us.”

The car in question is a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta, black, with four doors and black rims.

The London Police Service asks that anyone with information or video of the Volkswagen Jetta, its occupants, or other suspicious activity either in the Wateroak Drive area or in the area of Meadowlily Road South on or around Friday, September 10, 2021 to  call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.

 

UPDATE #3 – LONDON, ON (September 12, 2021) – The London Police are appealing to any members of the public who attended the area of Wateroak Drive between 4:00pm – 7:55pm, on Friday, September 10, 2021 that may have recorded dashcam video footage. Please contact police on our non-emergency line at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

 

UPDATE #2 – LONDON, ON (September 12, 2021) – The London Police Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the shooting that took place on Wateroak Drive on September 10, 2021. Police can confirm the deceased to be 30-year-old Lynda Marques.

This investigation is in its early stages and additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Any members of the public with information are encouraged to contact police on our non-emergency line at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

 

UPDATE #1 – LONDON, ON (September 11, 2021) – Police believe this incident was a targeted attack, and there is no threat to public safety at this time. The investigation of this homicide is continuing and police are appealing to the public for assistance.

ORIGINAL – LONDON, ON (September 11, 2021) – At approximately 7:55pm on Friday, September 10, 2021 police were called to the area of Wateroak Drive and Heardcreek Trail for reports of multiple gunshots fired. Police attended the scene and located one person with life threatening injuries who was taken to hospital by EMS and later succumbed to their injuries.

At this time, multiple investigative branches of the London Police Service are working in collaboration on this investigation and remain in the area.

This investigation is in the preliminary stages and as more information becomes available further details will be shared.
