Four Counties Traffic Unit Initiative

FOUR COUNTIES TRAFFIC INITIATIVE
More than 120 offence notices issued to local drivers

LONDON, ON (November 3, 2022) – On Thursday, October 27, 2022, the London Police Service hosted the Four Counties Traffic Initiative. This initiative was carried out by members of the London Police Service Traffic Management Unit, with the assistance of members from surrounding police agencies including Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service, Woodstock Police Service, Stratford Police Service and the OPP.

The focus of this initiative was to conduct enforcement related to aggressive driving, speeding, loud mufflers, distracted driving (cell phone use) and other equipment related violations.

As a result of the traffic initiative, the following charges were laid:

  • 61 for speeding;
  • Seven (7) for red light and stop sign violations;
  • Seven (7) for operating a motor vehicle with no insurance;
  • Five (5) for driving while under suspension;
  • Three (3) for failing to wear seatbelts;
  • Eight (8) offence notices related to Commercial Motor Vehicles and;
  • 51 other provincial offence notices related to a variety of Highway Traffic Act violations.
  • Additionally, two individuals were charged pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada. Two (2) Impaired operation of a conveyance, Operating a conveyance with blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

“Rules and regulations are for the safety of everyone,” said Sergeant Ozzie Nethersole, head of the LPS Traffic Management Unit. “Ignoring traffic signs and lights, travelling at excessive speeds and distracted driving are putting members of the public at risk each and every day. We continue to ask Londoners to focus on what they are doing behind the wheel, to help make our city the safest that it can be.”
