DISTURBANCE AT SOCCER FIELDS LEADS TO CHARGES
London man arrested in the north end of the city
LONDON, ON (June 10, 2025) – A London man is facing charges after interrupting a soccer game and yielding a knife over the weekend.
On Sunday, June 8, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., a man was observed walking through soccer fields in the 1200-block of Adelaide Street North while consuming an alcoholic beverage. The male (suspect) walked towards the players and began yelling obscenities at them.
The suspect was asked to leave the field multiple times before producing what appeared to be a knife. The suspect approached an adult female player with the knife in hand while making stabbing motions in her direction.
Police responded to the area and arrested the suspect male without incident.
The victim and suspect were not known to each other.
There were no reported injuries.
A knife was seized.
As a result of the investigation, Merhawi Gebremedhin, 30, of London, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a weapon;
- Assault with a weapon; and
- Fail to comply with release order.
The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in London court on June 12, 2025, in relation to the charges.
