30x30 Initiative Pledge
LONDON POLICE SERVICE TAKES PART IN THE 30x30 INITIATIVE
LONDON, ON (May 5, 2025) – The London Police Service is taking the 30x30 Initiative Pledge to have women comprise 30% of all recruit classes by the year 2030. In a press conference held this morning, the LPS pledged to support a vision to see women account for 30% of its sworn membership by 2030, and that its policies and culture will intentionally support the success of female officers within the organization.
The 30x30 Initiative stems from a 2019 report by the U.S. National Institute of Justice, which reviewed women in policing across the areas of culture, performance, recruitment and retention as well as promotion in the United States. To date, more than 400 law enforcement agencies have taken the pledge.
"If I could talk to my younger self, would I still choose a career in policing? Absolutely- without hesitation,” said Deputy Chief Treena MacSween. “This profession has offered me incredible opportunities to learn, lead, and mentor in ways I never could have imagined. I am grateful for the chance to show our community that strength, compassion, and leadership comes in all forms.”
Currently, approximately 25% of the LPS sworn members are women.
“Policing has allowed me to serve my community in more of a frontline capacity. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to make a difference within the community in such a fulfilling and diverse career,” said Constable Danielle Zapfe.
During the month of May, the LPS Recruiting Unit in conjunction with the LPS Media Office is launching a 30x30 Initiative campaign on its social media channels. The campaign will highlight women from different areas within the organization throughout the month.
Additionally, the LPS Recruiting Unit will be hosting several outreach events during the month. These events include dedicated women’s recruitment information sessions, a recruitment drive and physical testing dates. Female applicants interested in policing will have the opportunity to speak with recruiters, see what the physical test is all about and speak with other female officers and police professionals. They will have an opportunity to learn more about the wide variety of opportunities and benefits of working for the London Police Service.
