Civilian

Hiring Process

The civilian hiring process takes time and has several stages. The information below outlines our process in detail to give a clear idea of what to expect along the way.

You can submit your application online.

If you require an accommodation to submit your application in an alternate format, please contact Human Resources Division at hrgeneralist@londonpolice.ca.

Our team will review all applications to ensure they are complete and meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the job posting and job description.

For the position of Communications Operator, candidates are required to complete a Behavioral and Personality Assessment.

Depending on the position, candidates may be required to complete skills-based testing relevant to the role. Some positions may require multiple stages of testing. Applicants who successfully complete all stages of testing will proceed forward in the process.

Upon successful completion of skills-based testing (if required), a member of our team will schedule an initial interview with you. Typically, this interview is conducted over the phone or virtually.

This interview assesses alignment with the requirements of the position and gives candidates the opportunity to ask questions related to working with LPS.

Candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to a structured behavioural interview focused on the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the role. The panel typically includes Human Resources professionals and subject matter experts. Interviews may include both competency and scenario-based questions. Some positions may involve a multi-stage interview process. To proceed to the next stage in the selection process, candidates must meet the required interview standard.

For certain positions, a psychological assessment is required and administered in two stages.

  • Psychological Testing (Multiple Choice)
  • Interview with Psychologist (Virtual)

If this is applicable to the position you have applied to, you will be advised of this step early in the process.

London Police Service conducts a comprehensive background check and security clearance to ensure alignment with our mission, vision, and core values.

Our background investigation is extensive and detailed, taking approximately 4 weeks. This includes contacting your current and previous employers, coworkers, and personal references (for example: friends, family, neighbours, and partners). We also look at your financial history, so you will be asked to provide approximately two years of financial statements.

A Member of our Senior Executive Command will review your file. If approved, an offer of employment may be made at this time.

Upon successful completion of all stages in the recruitment process, you will be extended a formal Offer of Employment. This offer will outline key details, including your start date, salary, and employment conditions.

Note: All members of the London Police Service (and all members of police services across Ontario) are required to belong to a union/association. This means that the salary, benefits and other entitlements are governed by a Collective Agreement, and there is no flexibility to negotiate outside of its provisions.

Upon hire, your name is presented to the London Police Services Board

Accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities. If you require accommodation throughout the recruitment process, please contact Human Resources at 519-661-5660 or by email hrgeneralist@londonpolice.ca.
