What is the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate?
An OACP Certificate is used to confirm that a person has the basic skills needed to be a police officer.

Do I have to have my OACP Certificate to apply?
Yes, you are required to have your OACP certificate to apply to London Police Service.
What are the medical, vision and hearing standards?
Police Officers and Cadets must be in good health. Candidates must pass medical, vision and hearing standards. Cadet applicants with concerns about their health should get advice from a medical professional before applying.

What is a character letter of reference?
This reference should be from someone you have known on a personal level for more than five years who can speak about your honesty, integrity and maturity. The best references are from long term friends
How long is my application valid for?
Applications are valid for one year from the date that you have applied.
Do you have any scheduled information sessions?
We typically do not host information sessions. This website is designed to provide good advice to someone who is considering a career in policing. When we have recruiting events we will post it here;
Do you hire people who are not residents of London?
Yes. We are committed to hiring the most suitable applicants.
How long do I have to wait after receiving laser eye surgery?
You must wait two months after surgery. Documentation on vision stability and night vision is also required.
What kind of interview do you do?
We have our own interview. We do not use the Essential Competencies Interview or Local Focused Interview.
What is your age requirement for the cadet program?
You must be 18 years of age, however, the majority of our candidates have graduated from college or university. The cadet program is suited for younger applicants who have less life experience.
How long does it take to get hired as a police officer and cadet?
The process may take between 2 to 6 months to complete if the candidate is successful in all components.
When do you hire police constables?
The Ontario Police College (OPC) has three intakes per year in January, May, and September. Our selection process is ongoing throughout the year, and coordinated with the OPC intakes. Cadets are hired in March, July and November. Our PIN testing dates are posted on our website and on social media.
Do I have to submit my vision, hearing and fitness logs?
Yes these need to be included with your application package
Im applying for Cadet, do I need my OACP certificate?
No, you will need your vision and hearing OACP forms prior to commencement of employment. Prior to moving on to a Cadet Recruit position you will need to obtain your OACP certificate.

Do I need to take a Police Foundations Program to be hired as a Police Officer?
No. The minimum education requirement is four years of secondary school or equivalent, but the majority of applicants have post-secondary education from college or university from a wide variety of programs. Read our tips page for advice on how to plan your policing career
This is a competitive process. Your process may be stopped at any time if you are deemed not to be competitive or concerns arise. Applicants are continually being assessed on their qualifications including education, driving ability, physical fitness and writing skills. Your conduct prior to and throughout the process will assess your integrity, leadership and people skills.
The information you provide will help us to determine whether you meet certain requirements of good moral character and habits as well as conditions of work, as referenced by the Police Services Act. Your answers may be verified through a detailed background check, which is a routine requirement for candidates who reach the final stages of the selection process. Please be advised that providing false or misleading information may lead to disqualification from the selection process.
