LONDON REMOTE CASE MANAGEMENT COURT: ADULT & YOUTH

A GUIDE FOR SELF-REPRESENTED AND UNREPRESENTED INDIVIDUALS

The purpose of this Guide is to provide you with all the information that you require for remote ADULT “remand” court appearances (courtroom 4) and YOUTH “remand” court appearances (courtroom 1). Note: keep this guide; you will need it for all your remote court appearances.

ATTENDING ADULT REMOTE COURT

If you do not have counsel, your matter is scheduled for 3pm. You can attend court either over the internet by Zoom, or by phone.

ATTENDING YOUTH REMOTE COURT

NOTES ON ATTENDING REMOTE COURT:

  • When you join you will be placed on hold. You may be waiting for some time. Please do not disconnect. We appreciate your patience.
  • Follow any direction provided by the Court.
  • Only use the “chat” function to respond to messages directed to you by the Crown, Court clerk or Duty Counsel. Any other use of “chat” is prohibited.
  • Please note that any communication on the zoom “chat” function (including messages sent “privately” to another participant) may be viewable by the Court or Crown Attorney.

BEFORE YOUR COURT APPEARANCE:

Important: Contact the Crown Attorney’s Office for your disclosure and Crown Screening Form.

  • If you have a personal email address where you can receive confidential material, send an email request to VirtualCrownLondon@ontario.ca.
  • If you do not have access to a secure personal email address, please call the London Crown Attorney’s office starting on September 8, 2020 between 9am and 11:30am at 519660-3003 to arrange to pick up a copy of your disclosure at the front counter of the Crown Attorney’s office [80 Dundas Street-Ground Floor Unit B]. Starting September 9, 2020, counter hours will be from 9:00am to 11:30am Monday to Friday.
  • If you don’t expect to hire a lawyer and/or you want to talk to a Crown about your charge(s) call the Crown Attorney’s office at 519-660-3003 between 9am and 11:30am and ask to schedule a Crown Pre-Trial. If you are calling outside those hours, please leave a voicemail and someone will respond to your message as soon as possible.

  • Please contact Legal Aid Ontario well in advance of your court experience.

  • If you want to speak to a local London Duty Counsel, who may provide legal advice and/or assist eligible individuals with their court appearance, you may contact the local duty counsel office by email at dcc.london@lao.on.ca or by phone at 519-660-5095. At this time local Duty Counsel cannot guarantee same day assistance.
