IMPAIRED INVESTIGATION LEADS TO STOLEN VEHICLE AND DRUGS 
London man and woman charged

LONDON, ON (January 15, 2026) – Two Londoners have been charged after members of the London Police Service responded to reports of a possible impaired driver in the west end of the city over the weekend.

On Saturday, January 10, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., police received several calls in relation to a driver of a vehicle who appeared to be asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the area of Commissioners Road West and Wonderland Road South.

Officers learned the vehicle involved had been reported stolen to police on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

When the police arrived, they found a male in the driver’s seat, another male in the passenger seat, and a female in the back of the vehicle. The three individuals appeared to be sleeping. Officers subsequently arrested all three.

A search of the female passenger yielded a quantity of drugs.

As a result of the investigation, Richard James Smith, 43, of London has been charged with the following offences:

·         Impaired operation of a conveyance;

·         Operation while prohibited;

·         Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000; and,

·         Fail to comply with demand made by peace officer.

Additionally, Miranda Ann Lewanick, 33, of London, has been charged with one count of possession of a Schedule I substance.

The male passenger was released.

Richard James Smith appeared in London court on January 13, 2026, in relation to the charges.

Miranda Ann Lewanick was released and is scheduled to appear in London court on February 20, 2026, in relation to the charge.
