ASSAULT INVESTIGATION
London man facing charges
LONDON, ON (January 6, 2026) – A London man was arrested last night in relation to an assault that took place in the east end of the city.
On Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 10 p.m., a patron of a restaurant in the 300-block of Clarke Road attempted to leave the establishment with an alcoholic beverage in his hand.
When a restaurant employee stopped the suspect male and advised him that he could not leave the restaurant with the drink in his possession, he began yelling racial slurs at the employee. A number of additional employees stepped in to assist, and the suspect uttered threats to shoot the employees at the restaurant.
While another employee was escorting the suspect from the establishment, the suspect male removed a pool-ball from his pocket and struck him with it. The suspect uttered additional threats of death before leaving the restaurant on foot.
The entire incident was captured on video surveillance footage.
Police were contacted and responded to the area. A description was obtained, and the suspect male was located and arrested in the area of Clarke Road near Royal Crescent a short time later.
While seated in the back of the LPS cruiser, the suspect proceeded to utter threats towards the police officer.
The suspect and victims were not known to each other.
As a result of the investigation, Kodey Phillep Robinson Wheeler, 29, of London, has been charged with the following offences:
-
Four (4) counts of uttering threats of death or bodily harm; and
-
Assault with a weapon.
The suspect’s utterances were deemed to be a hate-motivated incident, however his criminal actions against a separate employee do not meet the definition of a hate-motivated crime. This incident has been reviewed by members of the London Police Service Hate Crime Unit.
The accused was released from custody and is expected to appear in London court on February 12, 2026, in relation to the charges.
Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
