Answered Questions

The solid intersection line is the threshold. If you are within the intersection (over that line) and the light turns red, you have not committed a red light violation.

Another great question! We get many questions about what you must do when approaching a bus. In this situation, you are not required to stop only because there is a median.

Thanks for asking Ryan. That is a good question. If you are both stopped and waiting for traffic to clear before proceeding, the car travelling straight through the intersection has the right of way over the turning vehicle.

Hi Janet! I get many questions about ebikes. They are not allowed on the sidewalk. E-bikes are subject to all of the same laws as bicycles and all cyclists are required to abide by the rules of the road as listed in Part X of the Highway Traffic Act.

I have received this question twice now. I can understand why motorists are concerned. I can assure you that you will only be ticketed if you violate the red light legislation. If you stop, then proceed with your turn when it is safe, you will not receive a ticket.

Each violation is reviewed by a person as well prior to a ticket being issued.

Thanks for asking what I'm sure many people have been wondering about.

Great question Vanessa!  First you have to ensure that the bus is stopped with its lights flashing and the stop arm extended.  If you are able to recall anything specific about the vehicle we can conduct a follow up investigation. You can call the Traffic Management Unit at 519-661-5680 anytime to report.

Hi Sean. No you cannot. When a crossing guard is assisting children at an intersection you must wait until all of the children and the crossing guard have stepped onto the sidewalk. The same applies to any situation on a street where a crossing guard is helping children across. You must wait for everyone to get off the street before you proceed.

Thanks for the question Sean. We get that one a lot!
