|What is the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate?|
|An OACP Certificate is used to confirm that a person has the basic skills needed to be a police officer. Applicant Testing Services is a company that issues these certificates for all police services in Ontario. They run a series of tests with aptitude, written, behavioral and physical fitness components that must be passed in order to get your certificate.|
|Do I have to have my OACP Certificate to apply?|
|No, however any applicant that moves beyond the initial interview will be required to have their OACP Certificate. Be aware that the OACP Certificate can take months to obtain and may take several attempts to pass.|
|What are the medical, vision and hearing standards?|
|Police officers must be in good health. Candidates who have concerns about medical, vision and hearing standards should get advice from a medical professional before applying.|

|What is a character letter of reference?|
|This reference should be from someone you have known on a personal level for more than five years who can speak about your honesty, integrity and maturity. The best references are from long term friends.|
|How long is my application valid for?|
|Applications are valid for one year from the date that you have applied.|
|I have renewed my Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP) test. Should I forward you my updated certificate?|
|Not right away. We will let you know when we need it.|
|Do you have any scheduled information sessions?|
|We do host a number of information sessions and will announce them on our website when they are scheduled.|
|Do you hire people who are not residents of London?|
|Yes. We are committed to hiring the most suitable applicants.|
|How long do I have to wait after receiving laser eye surgery?|
|You must wait six months after surgery and must meet additional requirements. Documentation on vision stability and night vision is also required.|
|What kind of interview do you do?|
|We have our own interview. We do not use the Constable Selection System interview format.|
|What is your age requirement for the cadet program?|
|You must be 18 years of age, however, the majority of our candidates have graduated from college or university. The cadet program is suited for younger applicants who have less life experience.|
|How long does it take to get hired as a police officer?|
|The process may take between 2 to 6 months to complete if the candidate is successful in all components.|
When do you hire police constables?
|The Ontario Police College (OPC) has three intakes per year in January, May, and September. Our selection process is ongoing throughout the year, and coordinated with the OPC intakes.|
|Do I need to take a Police Foundations Program to be hired as a Police Officer?|
|No. The minimum education requirement is four years of secondary school or equivalent, but the majority applicants have post-secondary education from college or university. Read our tips page for advice on how to plan your policing career.|
